Lahore a historical city (1981 pop. 2,707,215), the capital of Punjab
province, in center of Pakistan, on the bank of Ravi River, Pakistan's second largest

(16th cent.) as a capital of the MUGHAL empire, it was
annexed by the Sikhs in 1767, and passed to the British in 1849. The Fort,
Mausoleum of Emperor Jehangir, the Shalimar garden and Badshahi Mosque are among the splendid

CLUB PERMANENT PROJECTS
Our club participates in a variety of fund-raisers and community service projects. Health prevention is one of our biggest goals, along with serving the needs of the education and other community impaired. While working on these projects we do our best to enjoy ourselves and the fellowship of the other members and people we meet. We have several permanent projects that help our Community services. We are pleased to boast on our accomplishments and deeds.
Lions
Liberty (Wazir Begum) T.B Ward
Gulab
Devi Hospital Lahore
BY LION AFTAB
MUSHHADI
Lahore
Liberty Lions Club (Wazir Begum) T.B Ward at Gulab Devi Hospital was built by
the members of this Club in 1976-1977. This was the Club’s first permanent
project. It was basically planned and built to eradicate Tuberculosis, which was
and is still very common disease amongst the poor and the downtrodden citizens
of our community. The cost of this was around Rs. 600,000/- at that time.
Since
then, this ward has been female TB ward looking after women and children who are
suffering from TB and other chest diseases. This TB ward comprises of main
hall/ward with two verandas covered by wired mesh. It also has doctor’s
office, a dispensing and a nursing room with attached bathroom. For the patients
the ward has recreation room and a fully equipped kitchen. It also has four
washrooms and two toilettes.
Beside all the basic furnishings, the members have also furnished this
ward with air/dessert coolers, color T.V., electric water cooler, gas heaters, fans and other necessities
for the comfort of the patients.
Since
the establishment of this ward the members of the Club have been fully involved
with this project. This is clearly evident through their active participation in
the maintenance of these wards. This in turn insures that the poor patients are
constantly provided with the basic comforts, which we all know that they are
entitled too.
From
time to time these wards have been renovated and major maintenance’s have
carried out by the members of the Club. This is clearly evident from the
renovations carried out by the members in recent years as listed below: -
Þ
Year 1979: the ward needed a little maintenance,
which was under taken.
Þ
Year 1985: Major maintenance works were performed.
Þ
Year 1996: A color
television was installed and renovations were made.
Þ
1998: Rooftop
of the ward had started seeping after the rainy days of January 98; the ward
rooftop was fully refurbished. It was completely insulated and water proofed.
Further more, all around the outer walls four feet soling was laid to minimize
water logging around the ward. Wire mesh was erected during this renovation.
Þ
Year 2000: Complete renovation through repairs and
white washing in this April has instilled a new life in our prized project.
Complete sewerage system was pulled out and replaced.
Þ
Beyond Year 2000: In the years to come Lions are not
roaring high but are meritoriously acting high for the uplift of the
downtrodden.
God
willing, Lahore Liberty Lions Club intends to replace the flooring of the whole
ward with white marble and the face of the ward with red bricks. A fully
equipped modern operation theatre is in the pipeline as well.
May
Allah help us in our service to humanity through the eradication of T.B the
killer disease?

Data Darbar Hospital Lahore

IFZAAL MEHMOOD MALIK
Syed
Ali Hajvari a renowned Sufi Muslim came to Lahore from Central Asia centuries
ago and settled on the left bank of river Ravi outside the walled city of
Lahore.
He
was entrusted with a job by Allah to serve the humanity, which was in darkness
at this part of the sub-continent. He was kind enough to serve and teach the
people irrespective of their colour, race and religion. His conduct was so
impressive that thousands of non-Muslims accepted Islam as their religion. The
people then called him DATA GANJ BAKHSH. His shrine is still the centre of
spiritualism for millions of Muslims.
Just
on the back of his shrine a dispensary was constructed in 1961 by the Auqaf
Department. The people contributed on the name of DATA Sahib, with the passage
of time this famous dispensary became a hospital. A landmark for the poor living
in the adjacent localities where free medical facilities were provided to the
thousands of people who visit daily from far-flung areas.
In
1995, a children ward was constructed by the hospital administration. However it
could not start functioning due to lack of funds. The hospital administration
contacted our senior member Lion Dr. Absar Ahmed Khan a Paediatrician by
profession and requested for the renovation of the ward. An estimate was
prepared. After the presentation of the estimate the Board decided that there
were no adequate funds available with the Club at that time therefore a charity
show to rise funds should be held. The challenge for holding a charity/fund
raising function was accepted by Lion Zahid Mauladad. A musical function was
held at Avari Hotel with seven hundred people attending and listening to the
magical voice of Zil-e-Huma. Eventually a sum of Rs: 500,000/- was collected
from this function and through publishing of souvenir.
Lahore Liberty Lions Club through Lion Dr. Absar Ahmed Khan, chairman of the project started the renovation of the Ward. False Ceiling was provided for the whole Ward, Paint works and Plastering of walls were also carried out. Fifteen Beds with all the facilities were provided to the Ward. Complete Air-conditioning was done. Furniture for the Staff and Doctors was also provided. By this way the Club totally renovated the Ward. The ward started working as a children ward in 1996. Now a day the children ward is functioning under the guidance of Dr. Shahida Farukh and Dr. Qamar ul Islam Lodhi, Medical Superintendent of the hospital. This ward is also providing indoor and outdoor facilities to thousands of children and expanding day by day. We are following the footsteps of Great Sufi Hazrat Data Ganj Baksh by providing medical facilities to these poor children for their treatment.
Rehmanpura Lahore
BY LION IMTIAZ AHMED
This high school is a running project of Lahore Liberty Lions Club, which
was started in 1998. One of the senior member’s of the Club Lion Dr. Anwar
Hussain started this permanent project in 1998 - 1999 when he was the President
of the Club, when one of our members Lion Ali Shah first visited the school and
presented his report regarding the pathetic condition of this school before the
Board of Directors. The school, which is being run by the government department,
was in shambles. There were no
roofs for five classrooms, no science Laboratory for higher classes, no clean
drinking water, no lights and fans in most of the classrooms. There was no
concept of any medical facility. It is amazing to note that the school is
situated in an area, which is surrounded by the busiest shopping centres of
Lahore like Ferozepur road, Wahdat road and Ichhra. One fails to understand why
the wealthy people from these localities do not contribute towards uplift of the
downtrodden citizens of their community by sponsoring community projects such as
schools and hospitals in their vicinity. They should invest some of their money
on such nation building projects.
The Lahore Liberty Lions Club decided to upgrade this school spread on an
area of 6 Kanals having 270 students. This school was constructed between 1964 -
1966 having a covered area of 2 kanals comprising of twelve rooms. It also has a
playground of 4 kanals for the students. After the approval from the Board of
Directors, the members of Lahore Liberty Lions Club started the renovations of
this school. In the first phase the roofs of five classrooms covering an area of
1800 sq ft. were replaced with pre-fabricated concrete roofs. A toilet was also
constructed and an electric water Cooler was installed in the veranda of the
school. Paint works and repairs of some doors were carried out. The eye
screening of all the students and teachers were carried out for the first time
in the history of the school. Some of the students were provided with glasses
and medicine, while some of them were referred to Sheikh Zayed Hospital for
further treatment. These services were carried out under the supervision of Dr.
Arshad an eye specialist from the Ophthalmology Department of Sheikh Zayed
Hospital, Lahore.
We may have done our share but we still feel that a lot has to be done
like providing a science laboratory, floors to be replaced, doors and windows to
be installed and the whole of the school to be re-plastered and painted. Morally
we are bound to give the young students of this school all the privileges and
facilities found in a good educational institute.
